I'm looking to buy a GN with only 21,000 miles. Its claimed to be all original paint. However, i noticed there is no side moldings? Did some of these come factory with no moldings?

No, the moldings were an option (I ordered mine from the factory with no moldings).

Got me thinking ...

http://www.gnttype.org/numbers/rpo.html

Looks like you had to order RPO "B88 - Protective body-side molding(black) (Wo2, WE2 or WE4)"

Might have always been part of the "late build" car option packages, but I ordered mine when everything was still "ala carte".

That got me thinking too. So I pulled open my SPID file and did some checking. I'm thinking the B88 moldings were still an option and not part of the "late build" list of forced options from what I can see. From my records I show VIN 460679 being built in 10-87. I don't know what the start date was on the late builds but this was after the traditional August/September start month anyway so I'm considering anything from this VIN on as a late build. Here's a list of VINs and whether they had B88 Moldings or not.
460311=yes
460434=no
460679=yes
461252=no
461355=no
461367=no
462170=no
462466=yes
462490=no
464453=yes
464542=yes

My 86 GN came with them but I left them off when it got repainted. It kind of gave me an incentive to keep the car free from door dings. It's been a long time since I dared to park next to a pedestrian for fear of getting one anyway.

Cool!

BTW, mine is 440054 and built in Feb '87. I ordered a copy of the GM invoice via email and got it from the documents division. Kind of cool!

I tried to attach a copy here, but looks like the site is still having problems with uploads ...

Hey guys have to repaint my car, found some rust spots and want to fix correctly and with Black can't fade in the paint.
When the side moldings are taken off they are usually junk, does GN still have these? Or where can I get a new set? Not interested in just after market moldings so need correct ones!
Any Idea's"

Regards!

I don't believe GM offers them anymore. Kirban has 'clone' moldings, AFAIK.
