I'm thinking about trying these Cragar wheels (http://www.cragar.com/ProductView.aspx?id=1170&bq=%3fsc%3dsubmit%26t%3dW%26wRa%3d16%26wRb%3d8%26w Ba%3d5%26wBb%3d4.75%26wO%3d13%26) and was curious of how they might fit.

Specifically part # 397783P which is a 16x8 rim with 5" of backspacing and +13mm offset.

For comparison purposes, I read the specs of the GNX wheels and I understand that they had offsets of 15mm (front) and 23mm (rear). I'm not trying to get the GNX fit, but seems to me the numbers are close enough that the Cragar wheels should work. I think the 5" of backspacing is okay with the positive offset but I'm not sure. Thoughts?

3977834P, perhaps?

You have the offsets of the GNX wheels right, but forgot that their offsets are negative.

So, that 5" offset will put these wheels (or at least the tires) right against the frame. Not gonna work. You need 4".

The only other option would be to run spacers with these, but... :nono: I'm sure there are other wheels.

Negative eh? I'm guessing that's a typo on the wheels page (http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/suspension/tired.html).

Well, dang! I was getting my hopes up since those wheels are very inexpensive.

Well, I suppose I could just go with the 15x8 version of that wheel (3795834). It has 4" of backspacing and -13 offset. That should be just about right wouldn't it? I was hoping to be able to move up to a 16" rim for better handling and increased tire selections. Problem is that I'm very picky with the looks of wheels.

Okay, I finally got my head wrapped around the difference between backspacing and offset.

Sounds dead on.

I'm sure someone makes (or made) what you want. I recall an American Racing wheel like that.

From the page you mentioned: NEGATIVE OFFSET - Centerline is inside of hub mounting pad (decreases vehicle track) Looks right to me... :dunno:

Sorry, I was speaking of the portion of the article towards the top--the few sentences below the pics comparing the GN vs. T wheels. Regarding the GNX wheels, it states:

The front had a 15mm positive offset and the rear, a 23mm positive.

Anyhoo, thanks for your input. :)
