I'm ready to build a new motor. 3.8 has been torn down to bare block. I would like 10 /11 second car when done. Anyone have a good build list from crank to exaust. I have owned this GN since 88, ready to go reeeel fast but daily driver. Any help!!!

Also go through the last year on the posts in this section... There have been lots of questions and answers on head gaskets, lower ends and just about every aspect of building up these TR motors. It's how I have gathered the info. that I will use in my engine build... Good luck and don't be afraid to ask, if I had asked a lot more questions I wouldn't be building up a motor again... Tom G.

Need to be a little more specific on your target. A 10.0 motor will be WAY different than a 11.99 one. Also, race fuel vs. pump gas vs. pump gas and alcohol all require different equipment. Race? Street? Both? Define your parameters, and the depth of your wallet, and that will start to set the barriers of the build.

The Recipes are a great place to start.

I would like a fast dailey drive, so pump gas I would like to build the bottom end strong, so when i decide to go bigger it will already be done 10.5 SEC. is where i would like to be.
THANKS

If your loking for a mid to low 11 sec daily driver and maybe someday would like to dip it into the high 10's (with some further upgrades obviously) then this is my suggestion: you do not need to go overboard find a reputable buick builder in ur area for machine work and go with forged pistons (diamond or je's), stock crank, stock rods with arp hardware, either girdle or center two steel main caps, roller cam if possible (under 212 duration), ported iron heads w/ arp hardware (stock 8445 castings), and maybe find a slightly used te44 or 49 turbo, use your stock throttle body, and intake with a rjc race plate, and if your only want to run pump gas get akly injection with 60lb injectors, and a turbo tweak chip (slightly larger injectors suitable for upgrades later on). Remember you will still have to make other upgrades such as fuel pump w/ hot wire kit, downpipe (3" thdp will work), scantool, boost gauge, IC, etc. I'm sure I am forgetting some other needed items however these "IN MY OPINION" are whats needed for the motor to live in your provided application.

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks that is good to start. I would like to get it back on the road soon. I would like to do the bottom end, high end now, so i don't have to go back to square one when i decide i want to go faster.

If you will be racing a 10.5 second car, and with any regularity, I would suggest both and possibly a steel crank to boot.

Thanks Scott. since i'm doing all this in the bottom end, what about a stroker kit? a little more money, but would it be worth it?

Stroker will also cost you more in balancing the rotating assembly ...

Full Throttle used to sell a stroker kit, but I can't find it on their web site any more. TA Performance will make a stroker kit with any compression ratio, rod length, etc. ... of course this is going to cost you. Some extra cubes will make it easier, but it may not be worth the expense. Plenty of folks have done it on the stock displacement.
