I have, for the most part, figured out most of the codes my '87 TR has. But a few elude me. The following codes are what I can't figure out or cannot find the info one: E7Z, FFL, GMD, PDN, YT9 and 828. If anyone has the info on these, I sure would appreciate it...

Dave

BTW, the '87 TR has 75 codes on the sticker...

FFL = Flint Plant (where the bodies were built)
GMD= GM Division Assembly plant
PDN ... or is it PON (which would be Pontiac, MI)?
YT9 ... YT is spring number and "9" means Right Rear (7= RF, 8 = LR, 9 = RR, and 6 = LF)
I find no references to E7Z or 828 ... 828 would probably be some sort of interior code.

BTW, here's something that I saved from Eric Fisher (turbofish38) that he either sent me or posted a few years ago (looks like sometime in 2004 from the file date). I've squirreled it away because it is such excellent info:

Starting with the 1984 model year GM began implementing the SPID label program which intailed using an information label listing all of the options and equipment to help technicians service GM vehicles. They not only included the RPO codes but also paint and trim codes along with such information as spring and sometimes sub assembly codes. There were several different labels used through out the four years that the TR was built. The labels used for 1984, 1985 and partially through 1986 was a white label indentified by part number 14065987 in the lower right corner. These labels also have a protective clear tape over them. Cars built for the Canadian market utilized this same basic label but with a French language description on the lower half with the part number 14065989 in the lower right. Part way through 1986 and for the model year 1987 the label was changed and has the part number 14085266 in the lower right corner and the protective clear tape was not used. Information on 1987 Canadian market cars is not available at this time.

General Motors G Body platform models where assembled in several plants. They are repesented by the eleventh character of the VIN and by a three letter RPO code. These are the most common assembly plants for G-bodies built after 1982.

RPO.....Location............VIN Character 11
ARL.....Arlington TX...............R
BAL.....Baltimore MD..............B
FFL.....Flint MI......................H
LAB.....Lansing MI.................M
PON....Pontiac MI..................P
STE....St.Therese Ontario.......2

Turbocharged Buick Regals where exclusive to the Pontaic MI assembly line for 1986 and 1987. 1984 and 1985 turbocharged Regals were built on both the Flint MI and Pontiac MI assembly line. 1986 and 1987 Pontiac assembled G-bodies also display the code FFL because the main body units were assembled in Flint and shipped over to Pontaic for final assembly. As a side note some non PON and FFL cars also have the FFL code although it is unknown why. All GM vehicles assembled in GM owned assembly plants also have the GMD code.

The Suspension spring codes are also listed on the label. All four springs have their own seperate codes. They are as follows. The code starting with the number 6 is the left front. The number 7 is the right front. The number 8 is the left rear and the number 9 is the right rear. They will be one of these four numbers followed by a two charactor code. All springs were matched depending on the suspension level and type of options and standard equipment installed on the vehicle. By matching the code to a corresponding chart in the parts catalog the correct replacement spring could be ordered. At one time there was a large selection of springs to chose from but over the years GM has replaced most of them with a common part number to cut down on their inventory stock. There was also a tag taped to the spring with a matching code and part number. The following list will have the spring code and part number with the highest rate listed at the top with the lowest at the bottom. These are for the years 1985 to 1987 with RPO FE3 suspension.

Interior trim codes are indentified on the label and they always start with two numbers. The first two numbers are the basic color and the third will denote what part of the car the trim code is for. For example on a GN the code 82I means medium gray basic interior color with the I standing for Interior and the code 82C which is for the seat color and material type.

1984 Interior Trim Codes
22 Dark Royal Blue
67 Dark Briar Brown
77 Dark Maple
42 Medium Gray Fern
60 Light Sand Gray
61 Medium Saddle Tan

1985-1986-1987 Interior Trim Codes
27 Dark Blue
43 Medium Sage
62 Light Saddle
79 Dark Claret
82 Medium Dark Gray

Codes ending with the letter I denote basic interior color.
Codes ending with the letters B-C-D-E-G-H-J denote cloth and vinyl door and seat trim
Codes ending with the letters N-R-V-W-Y-Z denote all vinyl door and seat trim
Codes ending with the numbers 2-3-4-5 denote leather seat trim

Any other codes on the label are to be considered internal assembly plant codes and have no importence.

Exterior trim codes are indentified on the label and always start with two numbers. The first two numbers are the basic color and the third will denote what part of the car the trim code is for.

Codes ending with the letter U is the UPPER exterior paint code and the primary paint code if it is a monotone or single color
Codes ending with the letter L is the LOWER exterior paint code.
Codes ending with the letter M is the MIDDLE exterior paint code.
Codes ending with the letter A is the ACCENT color code for stripes and decals.
Codes ending with the letter Q is the color for body side moldings.
Codes ending with the letter T is the vinyl top color.
Codes ending with the letter P is the wheel or wheel cover color.

The exterior paint code is also represented by the Fisher Body or industry standard codes and are listed at the bottom of the label and start with the letters WA followed by a code.
