decking a block

I have the engine out of my 84. I'm getting ready to take it to the machine shop. Does anyone have any idea how much you can deck the block ?

Rule of thumb is the absolute minimum to get it flat. Not trying to be smart A?? about it, just telling you what I have experienced with my motors. Too much and the intake will not fit right,

Yep, a couple thousands usually is enough to true and square things up. Make sure your machinist puts a hatch mark finish back on the deck so the headgaskets have a little "tooth" to bound with.
