Just an observation ... looks like turbobuicks.com was sold to Autoforums recently. Interesting ...

Never paid much attention to turbobuicks.com. What I find interesting is that Mr. Carter seems to state in a long past post that he is affiliated with AutoForums. Hmmm...

Shame Mike didn't offer it up for sale FIRST to one of the turbo Buick members. I'm sure even a vendor would have taken it over gladly. Seems over the last year or so Mike was hardly around and didn't address much. That site will be dead and gone in a year. It will be nothing but posts of spam. The new owner was already talking about paid memberships. We all know how cheap Buick guys are! lol That's not going to work!

I saw this happen with the LS1/LS2 GTO site ... they did a good "sell job" and a bunch of the moderators stuck around for awhile and then it dawned on them that the world had changed. Bunch of them left, most quit being moderators and the site "slumped" for quite awhile.
However, despite some attempts to start new sites and a bunch of people leaving, a lot of them came back ... slowly and one by one, but there aren't any decent alternatives. The technical contribution has really declined there because of that, many of the original "veterans" may still be there, but they stopped contributing. However, there seems to be a constant influx of new people as the cars are being sold (considerably down market, IMHO) and I don't know HOW many "Hai there. Jus got a GTO an wan it LOUD. Wut exhaust is SICK!" you see in a day over there. (The running joke is that the exhaust section is like a fly paper trap to catch all the idiots/ricers).
Anyway, the new owners did change the flavor and there is definitely a MUCH more censured and "commercial" feel to the site, but it seemed to have (sort of) bounced back. More fluff and less substance, but still a lot of activity.

It is a shame but if they make it a paid membership I will bail. I do post over there some times but as time has gone by I pretty much stopped. Very sad to loose it:rant:
