I Have an 87 GN with 25,000 miles on it and for the past few years the Gas gauge is pegged off to the right all the time. The only way I can tell how much gas is in the tank is by pushing on the dash trim just to the left of the steering wheel and the gauge will drop to the fuel level but as soon as I stop pushing it jumps back over to the right.

Is this a common problem? What should I look for?

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you have located where the problem is located.

These cars are ~25 years old. Not unlikely to have a few niggling problems.

I would suggest contacting Casper's Electronics. They do quite a bit of work with the digital dashes, and should be able to help with the analog one as well.

Sounds like a circuit trace on the back of the cluster is broken or loose. Could be something pretty easy to spot, since you know where to "jiggle the handle".

I had a feeling that might be what it is. I guess I'll have to open her up and check it out.
