View Full Version : Cleaning Intake?

I'm going to install new injectors soon.

Is there any benefit to pulling the intake manifold and cleaning everything up while I have it apart?

My 87 GN has 120,000 miles and this would have to be a weekend job. How long would it take?

What all is involved?

Thanks,
Brian

The EGR port will probably need cleaning, they can get really clogged.

It's a fairly intensive operation to remove the intake in the car ... not impossible, but pretty involved (linkages, electrical, heater piping, etc.).

I'd bet you could accomplish most of the same (internal) cleaning by running some GM Top Cleaner through it ...

Thanks for the replies.

I found the procedure to clean the intake using top engine cleaner.

I think I'll do that.

I would like to know that procedure. Is it somewhere on the site?

Thanks, Ken. Not sure how I missed that because I've been all over this site at one time or another.
