Hello All,

I have some questions regarding a Regal WE-4. I have been shown pictures of the VIN and the RPO but cannot find any information on the vehicle. I was hoping one of you gentlemen could provide me with some insight.

Vin Number:
1G4GJ1176HP447069

RPO Sticker:

The vehicle is advertised as as a WE-4. It has apparently been registered with the following VIN.

1G3GJ1176HPH47069

Any answers would be greatly appreciated. The whole thing is a little fishy, but the car is appealing. Thanks!

The 1G3GJ1176HPH47069 number may not even be a legit number. I don't know how to verify the "check" digit. The "3" indicates Olds, not Buick. However, the "7" engine digit and most of the rest of the numbers are as expected. And the VIN matches the RPO tag in the trunk. One of the VIN check sites seems to have records for that VIN. But you have to pay to get the report.

I'd suggest doing a report on both VINs.

RPO tags are generally firmly affixed to the trunk. If the trunk was replaced and the RPO tag peeled and moved, it might look like the one pictured.

Is it possible that whoever entered the VIN when it was registered just drooled on the keyboard or something?

That's exactly what I have found.

Autocheck has information for that hybrid VIN.

I have seen other documentation from the vehicle alluding to the correct Buick VIN number AND the hybrid. It looks like someone did indeed drool all over the keyboard.

Unfortunately, the registration reports and whatnot for that hybrid number only go back to 1996. I guess I am just looking to find out about the car prior to 1996, or prior to the drool event.

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

I've had my best luck with CarFax. Regardless, these sort of errors are sometimes tough (or impossible) to correct.

Once I took my car for emissions and they added 100,000 miles to the mileage. I assured them the car hadn't seen 75k, let alone 175k, at that time. They just sort of shrugged and didn't think it meant anything. To some of us, it really does.

Either someone had a typo in the VIN at the DMV or maybe it was reVINed after being stolen or salvaged?

The VIN tag and the trunk all check out, but the "3" VIN is really fishy. Also, the way the RPO tag is peeling would have me looking really closely to see if it's just age/moisture or if somebody tampered with it.

I've seen some documentation for the car from the get go proving it is legit. It seems its a DMV issue, as it shows up on a ton of documentation. I am hopeful on getting it solved before I have it shipped out.
