Hello everyone. My son and I recently purchased our first Regal T-Type and I am looking to absorb as much info about these beautiful machines as I can. while I have owned 2 non turbo Regals in the early 90's, I am unfamilar with the T-Type. It is my son's car so he will most likely be on here more than I am. According to the previous owner, there was a recent rebuild on the engine and trans a little more than a year ago. I drove the car about 25 miles from where i bought it and it seemed very strong. like anything it obviously could use some tuning and that is where I hope to get as much info as possible from here. Anything you can tell me about these cars will be very much appreciated. While I am mechanically inclined, I am not a mechanic. I am including some pics. I paid $5000 for the car which I thought was a good price. there was a recent repaint on it and its not a bad job.

Thanks for looking and thank you for any help you can give me.

First, welcome. :bye:

Given the age of these cars, a lot of ground has already been covered. Don't hesitate to ask questions, but try looking around the site and the forums here first to see if you can find an answer. If you don't, you'll end up being pointed to existing data, anyway.

Good luck. And it looks like your pics did not come through.

The anti-theft collar is VERY important. Use it at all times, as these cars are too easily (and frequently) stolen.

Does the fiberglass ATR front bumper have a steel or aluminum channel behind it? And are there true bumper shocks, or the aftermarket "stands"? The latter does not afford any give in a collision.

I would say you did great for $5000.00!

Ordered the collar right after I bought the car and it will be used at all times. The bumper shocks are true to the car. I have the original bumper also and my son wants to put it on instead of the ATR bumper. The channel is aluminum and the air filter sits right inside. Will I have to remove the channel if i put the original bumper back on?

Air filter sits in the bumper support channel? That doesn't sound right...

I have taken the whole assembly off the "shocks" and worked with it. Probably easiest to do it that way. There are only eight nuts and two wires for the signal lights holding it all on.

That sounds like the old style ATR cold air system and to be honest, it's not that great. I'd replace that with something "Big Mouth" style and put the stock bumper back on.

A couple things I noticed:
- Looks like ATR style regulator on the fuel rail
- Injectors look like MSD 50s (can't see them well in the pics). If the car isn't running right, it might be something to look into a modern chip and injectors to replace those
- Looks like it has/had alky injection on it (and uses the washer tank as the reservoir )
- turbo looks to be "TA" style with maybe a Precision hot side housing?
- Somebody did a neck modification on the intercooler (is it stretched too?)

Looks like you got a decent deal for $5k! A little spit/polish and some TLC and it looks to be a nice ride!

Sorry im responding a little late but i work a mid-shift....here are some pics of the intake.

As you can see, there is a flexible duct that goes down and wraps under the car into the air box.

Thank you, as I said im learning what i can about all the parts as far as stock and after-market that are on the car. after doing some searching around we plan on taking the car to a shop called injection-connection in Hatboro, Pa. to give the car a real good look over, and to learn all that we can while there. Just feel better taking it to a shop that knows what they are doing and will give me the right answers as far as proper maintinance, and what to be aware in the future.

Thanks again, David

That is the first generation ATR cold air kit. Think it was originally called "Ramblo".

Im guessing it wasnt a very good system.

Yup. Old atr system. I have one up in the parts bin that I took off in the early 90s

Wasn't horrible but also wasnt great.

Also, the "strap" used to keep the motor from yanking off its mounts is somewhat passe. Better mounts are available from HRPartsNStuff that do the job with no straps. And you can change them with no engine hoist if you area a bit creative about it.

Thanks I will look into removing the strap. I have been doing some more research into the car and have found out that its been stored since 2000. The guy I bought it from never had it inspected. Only had some work done to it and decided to sell because he wants to put his money into his GN. Car was originally from South Carolina and came to New Jersey in 1995.

Food for thought on using a torque strap on these cars:

http://rjcracing.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Torque-Strap-Crack.jpg

I used an ATR piece to mount my charcoal canister under the fenderwell. Gave a lot more room for the large hose to the filter, no matter which system you use. It is no longer available, but I thought it was a great idea.
