Swap 84 mech cluster for 87 digital cluster?

I have an 87 TR with a dead digital dash that I have just started bringing back to life...I also have an 84 GN parts car with a mechanical cluster that I can swap. I plan to swap the dash pad from the 84 into the 87 (since a monster tach was drywall screwed to the dash courtesy of the previous owner) so I will already have everything apart.

I have read that the dash harness will need to be swapped with the cluster...is the harness the same between 84 and 87? I need a working speedo to get tags, and the $300 to repair the digital dash can be better used elsewhere in this project at this point.

If you just need to see the speed you dont have to install the harness. The only thing is the boost and tach will not work. So if you have aftermarket one you are good to go. I had the same problem but when I got my car somebody have a mech cluster in there but it was setup for digital cluster so I install new digital cluster.
