Anyone know where the original lift loops were attached to the 3.8L motor? I know the front passenger side stud on the intake manifold is where the front loop is bolted on. Where is the lift point bolted on the driver's side? Could have sworn both loops were on the original motor. Any clue? Can't find it in the original service manual either, page number?? Thanks

Hey Scott, guess I'm just not following, the two studs on the intake manifold? I know the front left stud is one lift loop, and the next to the last stud on the driver's side is the stud the EGR controller attaches to. Is the "EGR controller stud" where the rear lift loop goes also? Is the driver's side lift loop removed after the motor is in place? The passenger's side stays? Your patience is much appreciated.....

See http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/pictureguides/blocks/8687SG.html first picture.

Behind the head on the driver's side there is a boss above the trans mounting surface. Actually, right above and to the outside of the upper trans mount bolt on that side. It has an eyelet that is there for a hook or bolt. The hole is more visible from the side.

NOT the knock sensor hole. Look at the bolt where the engine is bolted, and just above it there is a longitudinal boss with a hole.

Can't seem to find any "side" pictures that show this.

Pretty sure the light just went on.... I've been looking for a threaded hole to attach an L-shaped bracket with a loop on it. The "hole" in the boss you're talking about is where the lift hook would attach, just above and to the left of the knock sensor threaded hole. No wonder it wasn't making sense, there's no "bracket" involved, just a perfectly located "hole" to hook up to. Sometimes I over-complicate things a bit I guess, thanks again for getting me pointed in the right direction.

There is a stamped steel bracket with an eye (a large one) on the front end of the passenger's side. The rear just has an eye in the casting on the driver's side.

I had a small bracket attached to one of the chains on the hoist balancer and assumed it was attached to the passenger side. Must have been off something else cause there's no need for it on the driver's side. Way too much confusion over something that's so obvious, appreciate your patience.

I used a nylon sling under the intake worked well for me.
