I blew a head gasket. I am in process of replacing head gasket. are there any pre-lube steps before dry cranking (no gas). If i remember the last time i used a long flat head blade attaced to a drill and turned the oil pump thru the crank sensor shaft to prime the pump. is this still a good idea.

Definitely a good idea. However, your drill motor might give up (or just heat up) pretty quick. Once the cold oil starts to circulate, it won't want to move. The drill will encounter a LOT of resistance.

I'm not sure the screwdriver blade is the best tool for the job, but I'm not sure anyone makes a proper priming tool for the Buick pump.

Good luck!
