View Full Version : Removing downpipe found silver metal flake on turbo wheel and housing..

I removed my downpipe and found some fine silver metal flake on turbo exaust wheels and housing turbo is not hitting the housing neither front or back no shaft play inside or out, very little almost non existent side to side play. what can cause this any ideas?. :confused:

Have you had any upper engine work done, or have you done anything to the exhaust manifolds or crossover pipe ie: polishing, porting, jet-hot coating, bead blasting, new gaskets, or pipes? Could be possible residue from any of these processes. Check your plugs to make sure they aren't being eroded. Also pull your up pipe and check the throttle body to make sure it's not coming from the intake side and going all the way thru the chambers.

Running a blown gas hydro boat and some 44 psi of boost, you can sometimes run lean. And lean in any boosted application means things will melt.

Hopefully you're not at the ragged edge with running lean that the metal you see on the turbo impellers isn't molten aluminum from the pistons!!
