View Full Version : Intake manifold - Turbo 3.8 vs SFI FWD 3.8 86-87

I've been poking around trying to find pictures and such, but with little luck.

How much difference, externally, is there in the intake manifolds between the 86-87 turbo V6, and the 86-87 SFI V6 as found in the front-drive LeSabres, Delta 88s, etc?

I'm really trying to figure out how each one mounts the thermostat housing. IIRC, the FWD version has the t-stat housing at a sort of angle. Is the turbo V6 intake the same?

Also, am I correct in assuming that, internally, the stock intake for the turbo is much better flowing than the non-turbo?

(EDIT: spelling)

The FWD has a one piece plenum and manifold, pointed to the rear of the motor.

The TR has a seperate manifold and plenum 'doghouse', pointed to the front of the motor. Its thermostat is a small sized unit, and its neck points directly forward.

I don't know if the TR setup has better flow or longer runners by design, but it may.
