I am new to this site and and have what I hope is a simple question. I bought an engine from a guy for another project I have in the works. The guy I bought it from was uncertain as to the original origin of the engine. His son had started rebuilding the engine, but had since quit and so he wanted to get it out of his garage. The only thing I have to go with is that on the box with the rebuild gaskets etc., it says it is an 86-88 buick 231. I was wondering how I can tell if this engine came from a regal or some other car and is not compatible. If it is, then that is going to be my next project to start in a couple of months. Hope you can help me out, I have always though a GN would be a great car to have. I have a soft spot in my heart as my first car was a '72 skylark 2 dr. Coupe.
Thanks,
Chuck

To see it it is a 'real' turbo motor, you also need to ascertain if it has a rolled fillet crankshaft, "two dot" rods, the right heads, pistons, head gaskets...there are a lot of pieces involved.

Get to work!
