The electric fan on my 87 GN likes to stay on for quite some time after I shut the car off or begin running 20 mintues later. I have replaced the fan delay relay twice, but to no avail. 2 questions - until I find a solution, how do I stop the fan from running (couldn't find a fuse to pull) and - second, what is the solution?

It might be doing what it is supposed to do ... if the coolant temp is above (from memory ... 225? degrees) after engine shut down, then the fan delay relay will make the fan run for 15-20 minutes after the key is turned off.

If may be that your coolant temp is that high? Do you have any kind of scan tool or even a coolant gauge? Might look to see if that's the case ...

Thanks Ken. My engine runs real cool - 170 to 180 - due, in part, to a front mounted intercooler and a 160 thermostat. Any other options that you can think of? Thanks, again. Doug

The fan delay relay has always been a problem. I think the best thing to do is disconnect it. If you keep it connected it will start up at odd times and run down the battery.I disconnected mine years ago and taped up the connector- no problem since.

Yes Doug - give it a good wrap with electric tape.
