knock counts

I just got a directscan v 1.5.When I start the car the Knock counts go to 2 or 3 immediately but no spark retard occurs until I,m driving and loading the motor in which case they have gone as high as 6 or 7. I'm wondering about the initial counts and what they mean.

It means the knock sensor is hearing knock.

I wouldn't be terribly worried. If nothing is rattling around loose and your motor is not coming apart, its probably somewhat 'normal'. Check your motor mounts, flexplate, converter bolts, etc.

Yeah, the most I've seen so far is about 4 or 5 additional counts .
