This is my first time on this site so please be paitent. To start with I have an 86 GN and am a Diesel mechanic by trade. I drove the car almost 1000 miles with out problems .When the engine light came on . I hooked my scaner and got code 41. I have changed and adjusted the cam sensor and the ecm, both ac delco. The car always restarts once and a while going down the road the light will go out. Any sugestions like ignition module or the chip as i have read theese are some what connected.

Thanks Joe

Sounds like it's loosing cam sync while running. Could be ECM or wiring ...

Ignition module is a suspect, but the chip won't have anything to do with it.

Hey I got the light out and it run's great. I finally traced the problem to the ignition module. Is there any good ignition upgrades from msd or mallory as I have fount theese Maganavox ignitions are not that reliable?

Thanks Joe

Actually the Maganavox stuff has been really reliable (I still have my original for example)... some of the reconditioned stuff from the chain stores (like Wells) seems to be a constant problem for some folks.

MSD makes some add-on stuff and Casper's has some higher quality stock replacement modules:

Make sure you look at the H.O. version ...

Ii Had The Same Problem On My 86 T-type. I Put A Brand New Cam Sensor And It Didn't Fix It. So I Got A Wiring Diagram And Checked Voltage From Ignition Module To Sensor Cap And No Voltage Was There. There Was A Fault In The Module.
