I looked to see if there was a FAQ but didn't find it. I'm looking at a T-Type in my area. It needs paint but the car is mostly straight and the interior is mint. The only problem with appearance is the car is gold. I don't like the color but the car is in such great shape I can look past this for now.

If I buy it, my mechanic must first bless the car. However, I'd like to spot a bad one before it get's to that point. The only major exterior flaw(s) are a rust spot in each door. It has one at the bottom of both door. This doesn't scare me away because GM made a ton of Regals and a door skin is nothing to me. THe clear coat is going as well but new door or door skins means paint so it all would be dealt with at once.

Last time I stopped to look at it the car had '89 or so TA wheels. It is now wearing correct T-Type wheels. What should I be looking for when I test this car out? I do not yet know the model year and the ODO reads 53k miles. The interior would support this but you never know. A five digit ODO can hide thigs.

The website is full of information regarding...well...just about any question you might have. There isn't much I can address, because there isn't anything you really asked...

Is the car an 84/85? Or did you just have no idea where to post your question...that I haven't quite detected yet.

Thank you for your prompt response. You are correct that I did not know where to post, or exactly what to ask. This car seems to be a good one aside from the few flaws I described. I guess my question(s) regard what to look for when I test this car. How should it shift? Should it be able to smoke the tires? What to look for under the hood? etc.

I've always wanted a T-Type or GN and it looks like the Gods are going to smile on me and it will happen. I just don't want to buy the wrong car. If I buy it I will keep it for many years and it will be a daily driver.

I'm more concerned with the mechanicals as everything else is basic Buick, I'm also concerned about the insturment cluster. I noticed it has an unusual tach. Can that be trusted? How easy it is to install a boost guage, does anyone make dual pod a pillar mounts? These kind of things are the knowledge I seek.

Edit:

I'm so damn dumb I didn't even read the link you posted before my response. I'll read it right now. However, any first hand advice you want to give is certainly welcome.

Read the buyer's guide (link above) for general info like what you are asking....

As far as gauges and such, there are gauge pods (single, dual, replacement pillar).

Take a good hard look at all the various topics here:

http://www.gnttype.org/resources.html

A good index of top level stuff. Then go here for technical stuff:

(pull downs at the top of the page for all areas)

... and then be sure to read all the Recipes for build ups:
