Is is possible to install a 5 or 6spd Manual Tranny on a GN/T-Type? If so, what is involved?

whats wrong with the stock one? works for everyone else in the tr world ;)
iI it aint broke......

Have it rebuilt by a reputable trans man, with some little modifications to make her shift slightly firmer, and youll be just fine. Stab and steer man. Plus, eats easier to eat a burger while cruisin. (though i would never recommend eating in a turbo regal, but if you must, it is easier )

I've been driving manual transmission vehicles for nearly 22 years now. I actually prefer them to automatics. You get better power transfer, especially in small size engines.

But in the case of a TR, where you have to keep the rpm's right to keep power output, I don't think it is physically possible to shift it quick enough. I have never in my life driven a car that goes so fast through the gears (or down the track). I would think that type of swap would slow the car down. Not to mention, as buddiiee has already stated, you can build the stock trani to handly just about anything the 231 can dish out.

Yep.. you can make it shift when you want, how you want, firm up the shifts, or lighten em up, anything... its all in there. theyre more adjustable than you think they are. and if its built to the hilt for racing, you can still make her easier to get along with, by sorta "shiftin with yer gas pedal" if you will.
or, conversely, manually shift it for even more performance. Automatics are alwalys more accurate, and ya never lose rpm's or boost with em. If its built right, ya mash that pedal and BOOM its 1,2,3 and overdrive right there right now....hard as hell. if your car is runnin right, put in a quality shift kit, turn the boost up a bit, and throw on some sticky tires and mash that pedal. i assure you itll change your mind. if not? save up about 4 grand, and make her into a manual ;) its all up to the imagination. but i would never butcher such a rare and beautiful car like that. really. you could put 4 grand into that operation, and would get 6 grand for the car when it comes to to sell. just look at ebay. the more modifications the tr's have, the less the fetch. hands down.
