I was wondering about that when I leave it drive off the line at the track it shifts really fast to second and then pulls ok but. I want to try a 8" billit converter has any one run an 8" stall with any success. I do drive it on the street also. I have a transmission freind that will build what I want. we thought maybe 8" to help the rev get up faster. but this is my first 3.8L turbo and I am learning alot about the differences from other motor tranny setups. what normally works on small blk chevys isnt what works for these cars. atleast that is what I'm seeing on the strip/street.

You want an 8" converter? So it clearly won't be a lockup. You obviously have well over a 1000 HP, right?

I'm guessing not.

Have you noticed that these motors don't rev over perhaps 5200 or so in stock form? Why to you want to spin the motor to the moon in every gear? It'll be out of breath before you cross an intersection.

Next you'll want 4:10 gears. And a 5" exhaust tip...maybe a big blow off valve...'cause you like the noise. :stooges:

Read the tech info on this site. And don't think in "Chevy" terms. Or "Honda" terms. :loll: Buicks are good 'ole fashioned TORQUE motors, and thhe turbo just makes it more so. 355 lb/ft right out of the box back in 1987. Took a long time for the industry to catch up.

we will have well over a thousand hp in it when she is done we were just wondering and fyi I have seen a 3.8l turn 7000 rpm and lets see 8seconds at 175mph I dont think he ran out of rpm crossing the finish line.

So, you are building a Stage II? Cool!

Totally different animal than the stock block street cars. The Stage motors can make some pretty awesome RPM.

I know my street driven mustang 733 rwhp 845 ft TQ , an 8 inch converter was too loose, and didnt far well with street driving

OK I think we gonna go 9" seems like a better choice for the 3.8

pacemkr.. what do you mean by

", an 8 inch converter was too loose, and didnt far well with street driving"

is 'loose' a slang term? or literal. and if its 'loose' on the street, why doesnt it 'drive well' if loose sucks on the road, is it optimal on the track? if so why.

smaller converter = more heat
8inch converters are usually around 4500-5500 stall or higher.
