My 87 GN came equipped with a late 80's Kenne Bell Ram Air System. It takes the air under the driver's side bumper. I've read in many places that this is no longer the optimum setup. For the best performance, do I have to upgrade to a brand new cold air system, or can I modify the existing Kenne Bell setup?

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

does yours have the scoop in the air dam?

Should be fine. Can't think what would be wrong with it.

Yes, Kenne Bell did something right. However, that's about it.

Yes, it is built in to the air dam.

I have an old ram-air for sale too [Mark H's "big mouth" system in place now]. I think this is what you meant by something newer, right?

Some systems have bigger pipes and use a cone filter instead of piping into the original air filter can.

To each his own.

theyre not THAT bad, but they are obsolete. i just took the bucket off of my cone filter, and kept the tube in place, to route cold air directly to it. its what most kenne belle users are doing now. honestly though, get a tinman cold air kit. much better. it places the actual filter OUTSIDE the engine compartment. BUT, then you have to watch out when driving in really dusty or wet conditions. it all depends on how and where you drive your car.
