Q: My MAF just failed ... what are my options?

A: There are a couple options out there:

Try your luck at the various rebuilt/remanned MAFs available from local auto chains. It's kind of a crap shoot to get one that is calibrated correctly and/or has the right innards.
Go MAFless with Steve Yaklin's Maxeffort ME-R chip/calibration system. It is a thumbwheel tunable chip that uses a speed density type of input (MAP) instead of a MAF. This is used mostly by very high horsepower applications that are stretching the limits of the stock ECM.
Translator/Translator Plus which let you use an LT1 or LS1 (or Z06) MAF. It involves an electronics module with dip switches to configure/tune it. The Plus version ties into the EST line on the ignition module and gives some additional adjustability to the spark timing.
MAF Translator Pro. Basically a box that replaces the MAF (although you can use the MAF to do initial calibration). It has a laptop interface and you can tune using spark/fuel tables in the box.
Recently there has been a report that GM may have started remanufacturing MAFs ... check with your GM parts dealer for availability. Part number: 19112569
