How do you mouse proof a car ?

Does anyone have a good way of keeping mice out when the car is in storage?

Don't know if it works, but the old timers used to place a rag that had been soaked in kerosene and place in a can in the car. I know it sounds strange, but I have heard of it from several different sources. I went once to check out an antique truck and the owner had rags stuffed in the doors and under seats.
