This doesn't really fit the topic, but I didn't know where else to put it. The speedo in my 87 is making noise and I'd like to try lubing the cable. The problem is I can't get the connection under the hood apart. I've been hesitant to apply too much pressure for fear there's a trick to this and I'm just doing the wrong thing and it's going to break. Any thoughts?

IMO, take it to the dealer. There are alot of things you can do with these cars yourself and there are somethings you cant. According to previous posts and the service manual, there is alot involved in fixing a miscalibrated/popping speedometer. Have to take the dash apart, drop the steering wheel, have special tools, etc. Mine started doing the same thing recently and it is only off by maybe 5mph according to the Scanmaster. Should not be that expensive if that is all they do.
