Hello, I have a Lola Indy lights car and was wondering if the block in these cars is the same as the GNX one, or what is it? I also possibly have a surplus block.

ooooooh, aaaaah, how much? The gnx has the same block as GN, T-Type. There was a buick stage motor and a stage II motor, for racing.

The block you have is likely a "Stage II" block, sold through GM Performance Parts and never used on a production vehicle. The GNX had a standard Buick V6 turbo block - nothing special and certainly not a Stage II block. The Stage II blocks have much more meat, 4 bolt mains, and 6 bolts per around each cylinder in the head vs. 4. Stronger everywhere. See http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/photoguideindex.html to check out the blocks and heads, plus some intakes.

We just looked at it again, the casting numbers have been ground off mostly so it's hard to read, but it is a 4.1, 4.125" bore, off center, 6 head bolt block. It does have the Buick power 6 on it. Thanks for the help. I've always been impressed with these engines, I work on race cars for a living and we ran Scott Brayton in a Buick Indy car in '89 at the speedway. Our best engine would make 910hp at 9200rpm with 55" of boost (about 12psi); and they would do this for 500 miles no problem. If you missed a gear shift or hit a bump leaving the pits and the revs went over this you broke valve gear for sure, but the bottom end was never a problem.

Only 910 HP? :)

Does it have a place to bolt a starter?
