Door lock

Factory alarm, there is a 2 wire connector covered in plastic connected to back of door lock cyl. When i try connecting to lock there is not enough space for lock rod clip.
Can i remove plastic from wires or is it there for a reason?
Is it possible body shop installed wrong lock cyl?
