just wondering what do you guys think is the widest tire i could put on the stock set of rims?

Do you care if it is the stock diameter or if it fits correctly? Or is it okay if it is several inches too large and wide enough that you wear out the center first?

IMHO, you should not go over 235/60-15 on a stock rim.

Here's a picture of a 275/50-15 M/T drag radial on a stock 7" wide GN rim. As Scott mentioned, you will wear out the center section of the tire first when the tire is properly inflated. I'm waiting on a pair of widened GN rims from Trudesign Wheel in Wheatridge, CO. I had them widened from 7" to 8" with 4-1/4" backspacing, they should be here Friday.
