Replaced the sticky valve with a piece of straight tubing and voila, I have heat in the cabin again.

So what is this fool thing for, anyway? The best I can figure is that the valve is to close when the A/C is on, to keep more heat out of the interior.

I think I see a plugged vac line and a 1/4 turn valve in my future....

you are correct, it helps reduce the A/C temps in the evap case
