there is a few 3inch down pipes out there i just want to know which one is best bang for the buck. i looked at the one from kirbans, g body parts, and one from southern customs. out of the three kirbans is the cheapest but its just the pipe with no three inch elbow. the other two have the biger elbow. is it worth getting the kirbans one and porting out my already ported out elbow. any suggestions???????

anybody want to comment on this one currently selling on ebay? In the market for a downpipe as well. Mostly for street use and some track so I am not sure if external is the way to go.

for what its worth.. all the GN1 products seem to be very nice quality, there intercoolers, valve covers etc...
The downpipe looks excellent i just personally havent seen one in person yet.

i have the ATR Dp with external waste gate on the daily driver GN and boost control is hard to control.. boost creeps pretty bad. Im in the process of installing a Gbodyparts down pipe and a set of the Ebay headers right now.

ill post some pics up soon

Do the THDP’s type help promote damage to the headers and brackets on D-Drivers?

I plan on doing some track racing (weekend warrior) here and there but mostly I will be driving my GN on the street. Is 50 bucks extra worth getting the dump pipe or should I go for the straight pipe?

Back in the day, I did some experimenting with a dump vs. straight pipe. IMHO, a good exhaust runs very close to an open dump. Plus, the dump makes a lot of noise inside the car. I just didn't see the reason to use it. With the ATR exhaust, there was definitely no reason. I think dumps are an outdated concept, and I would rather have a simple bypass pipe than the dump pipe that came with my Houston setup.

Thanks for the info Keller. I am looking at the test pipe and more then anything I am just curious as to what its for. Only thing I could come up with is its to replace the cat if your running on the track. Correct me if I am wrong which I probably am.

It is for replacing the cat if:

1 - You want better flow, since the media in the converter is restrictive.
2 - You are running leaded fuel. Leaded fuel will destroy a catalytic converter very quickly.

Of course, removing the catalytic converter should be done for off road use only since removal is likely a violation of federal and state laws. :halo:

OR wat i did was take the stock cat and hollow out all the platnium so it looks stock :quote: so no police can question you and its nice and free flowing :

I am more so worried about smogging the car in the future. I am not really a street racer other then your regular gun it at the red light or some highway thrills. I went ahead and bought the gbodyparts DP with test pipe last night so I can easily remove when its time to smog....

You can remove a dump pipe or a straight bypass just as easily. :what:

I would probably never utilize the dump pipe at all, especially since you stated that from your experience a good exhaust runs very close to a dump pipe so I went ahead with the 25 bucks extra for the test pipe instead. Now I can just switch it out with a cat when its time to get it certified. I am currently running 3" pipe all the way down with two 2 barrel flowmasters. I tried the maganflow's and they were just too quiet, oddly enough the 2 barrel flowmasters which are pretty loud on v8's sound nice on my GN. They aren’t obnoxiously loud.

In theory, the Flowmaster style muffler shouldn't make any sense for a turbocharged vehicle. There are no 'exhaust pulses' after a turbo as there would be after a V8 with headers. However, one of the locals here uses them on his GN as well with good results. Low 11's, anyone?

the only reason i use the stock cat hollowed out is so the police cant question modified exhaust. when it comes down to emissions i have a cat that i put it but. the cops in the mean time cant tell if i have a cat thats hollowed out. as to a test pipe or dump they can easily tell and you we get screwed :

In NC, once a car is 20 yrs old, you don't have to worry about passing a smog test anymore, so since it's 2007 and the last GN was a 1987, there is no concern....you can do whatever you want....Is it not similar elsewhere?

In California its 30 years. Our emission laws are pretty strict over here.

None in Michigan, although I knocked out the insides and just used the shell many years ago. Don't remember what I ended up doing with the shell in 1990 when I had a custom exhaust done...
