I am looking for information regarding the color and number of teeth of a stock speedo drive gear for the 86-87 Vin 7 Turbo Regal with 200-4R trans and 3.42 rear gear ratio.

TIA; Glen

Sadly, there was an article linked from this site to a page Dave Williams had that I think had info on the speedo gears and colors. Looks like the page has moved. Have to work on tracking that down.

Have you checked those links? Pretty sure your answer is right there. The 2nd one has color, GM part number, and teeth.

Hello Scott,

Thanks for the links. As I understand it, there is a speedo driven gear and a speedo drive gear. The second link is correct in that the speedo driven gear is a blue 30 tooth. I did some further checking and found out that the stock speedo drive gear for a TR w/200-4R trans and 3.42 rear gear is an orange 11 tooth which has been discontinued and is no longer available from GM. Wouldn't you know it, thats the gear I am looking for.

From time to time, someone asks me what speedo gear combo they need to keep the speedometer reading accurate when they change their rear gears. I wonder if there is some kind of chart that shows the speedo drive and driven gear/rear gear application combinations for TRs. I am sure if there is such a chart, it would be a great asset to have on this forum.

I will keep looking on my end and will be sure to let you know if I find such a chart.

Thanks again for your response; Glen
