Hello, I recently bought back an '87 TR I used to own. The car sat pretty much for 5 years while this person had it. I'm working through some 'bugs' that are popping up because of this. I drove the car to a Buick dealer about 13 miles away (highway there, city driving back) to get an out of state inspection as the car came from MI and I am in OH so I can get it titled here. Anyway, about 2 miles from home I stopped at an intersection for a left hand turn. Upon normal acceleration the transmission quicky shifted to 2nd at about 10mph, 3rd at about 20, and 4th about 30. The engine was bogging down with each shift. Car seems to downshift ok but could have 'bucked' a couple times while coming to a stop. Not sure, may have been my imagination. Car was running fine until this event and after driving around my neighborhood it does not appear to be going away. Does this sound like a TCC solenoid issue? I saw some mention of the TV cable in some archives. Any recommendations on where to start? Thanks for any help.

That sounds like the TCC solenoid to me.

I agree, mine did the same thing but I didn't seem to notice it until driving a while...... Good luck!

I took the car out for another test drive. The transmission shifted fine for about 15 -20 minutes before acting up again. Looks to be the infamous TCC solenoid.

Before you all start spelling doom and gloom, why not let him swap the TCC solenoid and see if that cures it?

Sounds logical Ken.!Also good time to do a spring cleaning and replace that
fuel filter that's been there for 5 or more years . I would probably drop that gas tank and flush out that "varnished " fuel if it been in there that long,.
injector flush would be in order too.!! :innocent:
