I have a silver tranny that reads metric GMC on it and nothing else how can i determine what it is and what should a 84 stock have in her?

By the Size and Shape of the Pan ! Any parts store should have pictures you can match up !

That sounds like one of the weak transmissions they put behind the NA V-6's.

that's what i was thinking. Is it a 4speed, or 3? I thought metric trannys were 3 speed. anybody??

Any automatic tranny from the last few decades that isn't painted should look 'silver'...they're aluminum!

The 200-4R pans say Hydro-Matic, as well as METRIC on the bottom as I recall. The pan shape suggestion is a good one.

Sorry, METRIC does not denote number of gears.
