Check out this comparison chart, and add the new Power Logger from full throttle to the mix.. Most of the laptops you see are probably for data logging, there are also aftermarket systems like FAST and DFI that use them for tuning..

aftermarket systems like FAST and DFI that use them for tuning
FAST, DFI, BigStuff3, etc. are aftermarket ECMs that require a laptop for programming. They are not data collection systems, but they provide data collection as part of the package as well.

could you explain more on the turbo link and the power logger? wats the differences in them is one better than the other can you adjust things using the laptop or is it only a more indepth look at wats goin on. and how indpeth dose it get???

they both log data... you need a scan tool " turbo link" or power logger to make changes in your chip if you are running a chip thats adjustable like
turbotweak chip or one from full throttle

powerlogger has real time streaming data and has the fastest frames per second.

its the latest and most powerful scan tool out there right now for our turbobuicks

so with the power logger you cant make changes. but with tthe turbo link you can right??

Some chips from Turbo Tweak apparently give you the ability to make small changes in tuning. Power Logger gives you a greater volume of data than TurboLink. However, TurboLink fits other vehicles: 84-85 TRs, as well as a lot of other GM pre-OBD2 vehicles.

None of these logging systems allow you to make changes on the fly; only some chips do. Or a very expen$ive aftermarket ECM system. However, you need to learn more about all the data collection systems and compare their abilities against your needs.

You cant make changes with Turbo Link either.. Its just another data logger.. I'm an info junkie and before I bought the Power Logger, I ran Direct Scan. The Logger and DS both get attached to the ECM and like Phil said, provide much more "real time" information than T-Link does(T-Link will only give you one frame every 1.25 seconds, similar to the ScanMaster). IMO, Its just a fancy scanmaster. If you are going to race or wish to max out your ability to "tune" with the stock ECM the Logger is the best. With a Turbotweak chip you can adjust WOT fuel in 1st gear, WOT fuel overall, timing in 1/2 gear and timing in 3/4 gears..The Extender chips have similar functions...

so basically both of them (power logger, and turbo link) are just really fast scan masters. in that they gather information faster and a bit more indepth correct?

turbo link is as fast as scanmaster

powerlogger and direct scan are the only ones that have real time data stream
