View Full Version : Stainless Steel Headers

As advised, I am posting this topic on this forum due to the opposition faced on turbobuick.com. This is simply a poll Im taking.

If I were able to bring some of these headers in, how many would be interested? It may take some time to coordinate this but, want to make sure its worth the effort. I would have to test fit them first of course and they shouldn't be very expensive either (probably much less than $400/set with modified flanges). LMK.
Thanks,
Derek

Im going to place an order for one soon to check quality and fit. Than I would need to order a minimum of 50 the next time. If they look/fit good than it could be less than a month or right around there before I bring in the full load (it would be nice to have at least 50 interested since I have to pay out of pocket). If they need to be modded than I'll re-think it depending on how much modification there is to be done. I have a car here that I am going to test them on (my 86 GN). Un-modified I can sell them for about $125/SET + shipping charges. That is extremely cheap and at MY COST!!! Like I said, its to help out the TR owners who haven't got the money to spend $900 on a set of headers. For $125 I feel you can't really go wrong.
Thanks,
Derek

Sorry, been busy with a bit of things. Anyhow, I placed an order and the manager got back to me saying that she didn't realize that the only 50 sets they had available were sold not even a month ago to someone in the US. Well I thought no problem, just have them make more. Well, they want me to make a deposit of 30% of the cost of at least 30 sets. That will be no problem in a week or so but, Im wondering how many people have been contacted by a certain member. I received a PM from a TB.com member saying that he already has those sets on hand and is selling them for $250 + shipping. He also said that he plans to put them on ebay this weekend. I guess he is the one who bought the 50 sets. Im just wondering how many people will still need these or will they just buy his?? If you still need them I can proceed but, Im unsure if there will still be enough interest especially if this guy is already selling them :dunno: .

LMK,
Thanks,
Derek

Here is the PM he sent me:

"Hi Quicker6,
If your interested in the headers, I already have 17 sets available already fit to an engine and houston 3.5" DP. They will be on ebay this weekend but if your interested in sets then I'll sell them at $250+shipping. If you haven't ever dealt with importing before there are high fees associated with air freight, customs, a broker and then freight to your place of business not to mention meeting production and sales minimums from the producer. Please contact me via this email address for pictures and interest."

I know for a fact that it doesn't cost that much even with the freight and customs. It should only cost him what I posted per set (maybe $20 more with air freight). To save everyone money I was going to bring them in by boat which takes a little longer.

I dont know, lost cause?? Need input I guess.......

Thanks again guys!,

I guess there is a bonus to this other guy that is selling those headers. He already has them test fitted on an engine!! They look like they fit fine and didn't require any mods. I can place my order with some peice of mind now. At the price he is selling them for he is making a $100+ profit per set. I think that I'll go ahead and place an order for them early next week. They are still trying to produce enough for me. I think I will just order 30 sets. Hopefully they'll be done making them up soon.
Thanks,
Derek

I understand that you needed them in a hurry. Update us all on how they fit. I have asked that the manufacture start producing them again and they say it would take about 20 days to make them and than wait for it to be shipped. It is $800 more for the entire order to be shipped by air than it is by sea so to keep it at $125/set it would come by sea which is about 15-20 days. Will keep everyone posted. I reduced my order to 25 sets only (to make sure I sell them all)

I put a set on my GN with no problems :) I do recommend not to use the clamps or gaskets though. Get copper gaskets!! I was dumb and ended up changing to copper because the header to turbo gasket leaked bad. These headers are very good though :)

sometimes when people switch to FAST XFI or BS3 aftermarket ECM's they switch out the coil pack for a distributor to get away from the waste spark ingnition

Sorry, been really busy. Im picking up another 87 GN next week Monday!!

I dont have the headers on hand as of right now but, am working on it in conjuction with the manufacturer. I think I mentioned the time frame in another post. Will update everyone when something changes. I have to figure out how to wire the money to them, lol. It looks like out of country banks are a little different. They want $800 up front first for 25 sets shipped by sea and the rest of the balance upon completion of manufacturing. There is an $800+ difference on the sets shipped by air which gets them here 15 days quicker but, want to keep everyones cost down likewise.

I know its been brought up and I may want to take a deposit per set. Maybe 30% of $125 and shipping to you will be tacked on later. By sea it will definately cost that much, I can gaurantee. If everyone wants it quicker (by air) than it will go up a bit ($34 per set). I can't do one or the other either. LMK, if everyone interested here would want to do that. I would only like to take paypal that way there is a receipt of every transaction.

Thanks!!

Sorry, been so busy didn't even check PM's or the thread. I picked up another 87 GN  and an 02 F350 crew cab :)

I will be taking pre-orders on 30 sets so if you want one for sure it would probably be best to pre-pay. Any sets left-over unclaimed will be sold off when they come in. Deposit will be $38 (30% of $125).

Anyone wanting to pre-order please send me an email (I can save my email better than PM's). I have had some requests to take checks and have decided that I will do either paypal, MO, or check to make it easier for everyone. Shipping charges will be added once I get them in hand to make sure you pay only actual charges.

Update from the factory is that they are already being produced and estimate another 15 days or so until completion. They are hounding me for the deposit money so Im going to go to the bank and wire it to them.

Hold on to your money guys. Someones trying to mess up my deal with the manufacturer. I received this email from the manager there just a little while ago.

"Derek,

I am sorry to tell you , we cant sell you GN2, don’t go to the bank , if you need another products, I will arrange for you . coz of our customer. His name is Paul., do you know PAUL? He is our customer, GN2 we charged him the mould fee, he wants to be exclusive distributor, but he cant meet our the quantity, so we want to sell GN2 to the others. But I feel so confused why he knew that you would place 25 pieces GN2, how did he know this? probably he knows you . please see this email:

".....there is a vendor attempting to buy now 25 sets and sell them at Cost to drive us out of the market."

Anyways, we cant sell you this one, sorry for this.
please give me your explaination

Jessica"

I guess that someone that lurks the board doesn't want this deal to happen at all. Im fighting against it though and will update everyone as I find things out. For the time being PLEASE DONT SEND ANY MONEY TO ME until I give the ok.

All right then. This guy is a coward. Hay who ever you are, Buy them ship them here for us give them to Derek at your cost then. Then you can go hide with your tail between your legs. You should never be greedy. It will come back to haunt you later in life. I hope as hell that no one will sell you anything ever again. If its business then fine. Buy them ship them and sell them to Derek as I said so we can get them. May be the cost will go up a little but at least you saved your name. Besides I didn't know you owned the rights to a GM part. So just think if the person who desinged these parts in the first place had your tude he could give you a hard time about the infrinsment rights on the stock parts.

Well it would be nice to get them at $125 a set but I cannot be upset with the guy. If he had anything to do with supplying the mold or getting them produced and he is offering them at $250 SHIPPED then I guess I would have done the same thing if I were him. The Buick market is a lot smaller than the SBC or Ford Mustang market and the loss sale of 50+ sets of headers is nothing to ignore. If the guy doubles his money at 250 bucks good for him. Think about it this way. This Paul fellow took the steps to make a set of headers available for less than half of the price of the next cheapest set of Stainless headers. Suppose he doesn't stop there. Suppose he does the same thing with Aluminum heads? Don't run this man out of market by threatening him or making him feel like his efforts aren't appreciated. Hell I appreciate them even if he is only doing it for the money. I hope he provides more parts to us.

Ill update you all when they get back to me. I know they want to sell to me but, the other guy is there regular customer so he may have more leverage.

Thanks,
Derek :six:

Derek if you have not already you may want to suggest that you will be a return or ongoing customer as I think you will be after this first order gets out.

PS: PAYPAL is ready.

Somewhat of an update....

I received an email back from that "lady manager" and she wanted to know how much I would be able to buy of not only the GN headers but, other products they make in the future. Seems like they want me to be a regular dealer of their stuff. They make all kinds of things too, small block stuff to import car stuff and more. I just don't think that I can keep ordering things over and over every year. Im still pushing the issue with them that I only want to purchase the GN headers and nothing else but, I don't know what more I can do...I appreciate the massive support from everyone though!!

Sorry guys but its not looking too good,
Derek

Tell her to make some more GN stuff as you have a specialized customer base. Valve covers, vacuum lines, fuel lines,

I'd Tell the "lady manager" that their perceived quality is an issue. You have alot of people who would like their headers but if they don't meet standards you would not wish to do further business with them. This order would be a test. You could also say that if they meet quality standards then you would like to use them to produce other parts as well for your market. The quality standards gives you an out if you need it, and it puts them on the defensive wanting to sell to you to prove it to you.

Has anyone checked to see how accurate the port spacing is? I'd like to see a felpro 1400 gasket matched up to these headers. Has anyone checked? Just curious.

Did you say 3.5 DP? I wasn't aware they came that big. Won't the stock turbo only support a 3"?

Saw the thread getting old so I thought I would help. I installed my headers with no problems, and very slight fitment problem on my right upper controll arm, but no worries a set of tubular's is on the way as we speak. Hope every is as happy with their pipes as I am!!! DP going in as soon as the controll arms get here.

XxDarkSidexX
08-18-2007, 06:54 PM
thanks :) its just a stock cross member from 86. BTW I prefitted that 3.5" DP, and it fits like a glove! But the DP stainless bolts are a 1/4" short, so I have to get longer ones. So far so good, I AM A VERY happy owner of these exhaust peices. Thank you pace!
