Sorry to keep bugging u guys, just trying to get the most out of my car without going crazy with mods.
What type of shift kit is best for these cars?
what would be the best street conveter for a mostly stock?

it all depends on what your goals are with your car

i want to get a bit more performance, but not go race it.....i have a pretty much a stock set up other than a up grade to the entire fuel system and a street chip.

Skip the converter if you have a stock turbo.
Work on the typical Recipe items (especially exhaust and intake) first. Much more bang for the buck.
IF you step up with the turbo, then start looking at matching a converter with it.
As far as shift kits, many people have good luck with either the B&M, the Fairbanks, or the Trans Go.
They all basically replace the pressure regulator valve, upgrade accumulator springs, and the spacer plate for quicker, firmer shifts.

i agree with Ken, if you plan on running the stock turbo the factory converter is plenty good.. and ive had good results with the trans go kit

Yes. :yesnod:
Stock converter has "5" or "D 5" stamped around its edge. If yours does not, yours is not the stock unit. If it has "7", it is likely from another GM car line and has less stall. Refer to the guides previously referenced.

Paul,
Do not put a Trans Go kit in there! :ow:
At your modification level, a kit from CK performance will do good for you... And your trans. It will do alot more for you per $$$ spent than the T-G kit.

thanks for the advise. Is the trans-go to harsh?
What about an Art Karr shift kit?

Hey Brian,
Do u have a stock D5 Converter available i can buy?
paul
i recently rebuilt my tranny. all i did was put a b and m shift kit in it and added a 2400 stal converter. i have the stock turbo and no other mods to trany besides shift kit. car shifts nice and launches hard. i can launch under 1lb of boost but will spool to 2. i figured this converter would be good for a slightly upraded turbo for the feature.
ps... had to put new tires on car so i burnt the old ones to nothing. car shifted in to third gear and smoking tire :woot: e

Paul,
The A/C is a good kit as well.
But, due to having a 500 and 296 booster valve combo with the CK kit.... I believe it is a better more thorough kit. Nice calibration for a MILD car.

I do not have any that I would feel comfortable sending out. Lots of contamination.

Thanks Brian,
I'm ordering a Tourque Converter. I'm looking for just a stock replacement.
I know factory stall is 2200, when i called in for it, the specs are 2000 stall a # 5 converter. is that the same as a 2200.... It seems i'm having a hard time getting a converter.
thanks
paul
PS.. i'm ordering it from TransStar a tourque converter company

2200 > 2000...That is what I learned in grade school. It is pretty close, of course.
You can get converters from GM. Or even a reasonably priced one from the converter companies that service the TR aftermarket. (i.e. Pat's, TCS, CK, etc.) What you are getting will probably be fine.

The only thing i could get that they had available was a 2050 stall.
It does have a #5 on the converter.....
Hope this is close enough.
I guess the one i had in my car was
only a 1650 stall. By replacing it with this one should i feel more power off the line?
thanks

Yes. It will allow more torque multiplication, and allow the engine to spin up a little higher and start to get the boost going quicker. This should be a nice upgrade.
