thinking about going over to the ls1 or lt1 style maf. but what about the other mafs??? like on the 4.3s or the later (90-00) 3.8s??? is there a difference?? and why use the ls1/lt1 mafs???

and on the stock maf does taking out a screen make a difference good or bad?

The late 3.8's have the MAF bolted to the throttle body. The post TR ones aren't that large, and thus would be restrictive.

I've tested with and without one or both screens. You will gain nothing. Two screens out will ruin your idle; that's all. You lose proper flow across the sensor.

wat about that style of maf thats not part of the throttle body like the 4.3 vortec motors??. but electronically there is no difference or is there???

LS1 = 3.5"
LT1 = 3"

Personally I have found no difference between the 2 other then one is bigger then the other. Then again your intake of air is only as big as the widest part in the line. So by the time it gets to the tb your down to 3". :)
I did this conversion a few years back with Full Throttle's Translator. Made about a dozen gremlins go away for me. One of the top 10 mods to do for a turbo Buick for their aging/falling stock mafs!

Don't know if the 4 or 6 cylinder motors used same MAF as the LT1.

The 1996 and newer 3.1/3.4 V-6 in most Grand Ams and other FWD GM cars use the LT1 MAF. I see at least 3 or 4 of them every time I hit the boneyards. And most 4.3 V-6's use the LS1 MAF.

I recently installed the Full Throttle 4" intake with the new-fangled slide-in Mass Air Sensor.
It's working great.
Gained 1.5 lbs. boost over my previous 3" tubing and stock mass air arrangement.
The new Mass Air is THE latest and greatest and cheap/VERY simple to replace as well.
NO flow restriction with this monster.
Any questions? Don't hesitate to e-mail or PM, I'll do my best to answer.

did it work great for you right out of the box??

No, I had some issues BUT....
They all stemmed from a bad Mass Air right out of the box.
Not Full Throttle's fault....AC/Delco's fault.
I didn't realize that was the problem until I had spent WAY too many hours beating my head against the wall trying to figure it out.

Full Throttle took care of me on the purchase of a replacement, though.
They're readily available locally, BTW.

Is that the Big Mouth CAI? What pipe is that between the MAF and inlet?
