What Turbo

Time to seriously start thinking of which turbo to buy. Was thinking of the PTE 6776 RS (ball bearing). Appears turbo section under Technical Info is getting outdated (which is good for us:))

Of course then I would get a torque converter to match. What's the difference between PT 67 and GT 67 and can one buy too much turbo?

Street car, may drag 1 or 2 times. Only want to buy once and grow into it.

Engine's getting close to competing rebuild; need to order a turbo.
Anyone compare the TPE 6776R to the CPT 66 ball bearing? What are benefits/minuses for both? What's a P-trim? :flame:

The p-trim vs Q-trim is not much of a difference.

p-trim is 2.54" exducer/ 2.92 major

Q-trim is 2.69" exducer/ 3.11 major

Spool time should be pretty similar with the nod of course going to the p-trim since its lighter, but the Q-trim will be a good bit more efficient.

The diameters are not that much different, but the pitch of the blades is MUCH different. You can tell by looking at the blades that the Q would definitely flow more.

For the 231 Buicks, the P trim will out spool the Q trim by a good amount. The Q will probably make up for it on the top end though.

With enough stall, you could spool the Q on the street though.

the CPT 66 ball bearing looks to have a T4 flange and wont bolt up to stock style header.. " the mounting flange has 4 bolts"

and i couldnt find anything on a TPE 6776r

did you PTE 6776 ?

Link me to the turbo you are looking at

I just purchased the CPT66bb and I can tell you it is a 3 bolt.

Thanks Phil and Chris. Yes, I meant PTE 6776R. What does the S on the end of your turbo stand for Phil?

So I think I want the P trim for quicker spool-up and mostly street-rodding. It may be work better to offset my bigger headers.

What about the .63 or .82 exhaust housing choice? The effect of the larger .82 moves the rpm power band up a bit? This also affects turbo spool-up? What trade-offs will these housings have mated to the P trim?

S = compressor cover size A/R .70 4" inlet / 2.5" outlet
H = A/R .75 4" inlet / 3" outlet
E = A/R [? .60/.65maybe] 3" inlet / 2" outlet
