Synthetics have very high anti-wear characteristics, and very high temperature tollerance. The latter is a big factor in a turbocharged engine since the turbo bearing rides in (and heats) the engine oil.
You may want to address any small oil leaks before you introduce the Mobil 1. Synthetics have a way of making leaks appear where none were evident because of their improved lubrication characteristics.
