Question Difference in 109 vs 110 and 111 blocks?

All,

Just wondering, aside from the fact that the 110 block came in FWD cars, and the 111 is an FWD-with-roller lifters, what are the actual physical differences between the 109, 110, and 111 blocks?

Thanks! I poked around this site some, but couldn't really find what I was looking for.

From what I've seen ...

The 111 block was used in cars like the Electra and had:
  • No distributor
  • oil pump driven by splines
  • 7/16" Dipstick
  • VIN Code 3
  • Roller cam
The 110 block was used in cars like the Century and had:
  • VIN B
  • No distributor
  • 3/8" dipstrick
  • 20 bolt oil pan
  • flat tappet cam
I'm thinking the lifter bores might be different, due to the rollers

Exclamation Re: Difference in 109 vs 110 and 111 blocks?

So is the 109 block in the VIN 7 cars the same as the 110 block VIN B? (I'm sure I've missed *something* here!)

It sure looks very similar from the specs, but I'd have to see them sitting side by side. I'll bet there are slight differences, otherwise there shouldn't be a change in cast number...
