Default Oil leak

I was looking for some advise on a problem. My 86 GN has a oil leak high on the engine. It looks to be comming from the driver side upper part of the engine. I belive it maybe the head gasket leaking. There is no oil in the coolant, no loss in performace at all, it just leaks a little bit of oil. If the car sits in the garage for a week it will leave a small amount on the floor not a puttle just a realy thin layer of oil. The loss in oil is not even seen on the dip stick. Even when I drive it and park it, it may just leave a drop, should I just leave it alone or maybe retorgue the head. Any advise would help.
Thanks
Drew

Question Re: Oil leak

Don't retorque the head, as these cars have torque-to-yield head bolts. Leave 'em alone.

Where is the drip in relation to the motor?

These motors are notorious for rear main seal leaks, so that is one likely cause. But that would be in the center rear of the motor.

The fill tube gasket could cause a driver's side leak.

Thanks for the information. The oil leak is on the driver side towards the top of the engine. I did not think to look at the fill tube. Could it be from the intake in the back of the engine?
Thanks
Drew

Lightbulb Re: Oil leak

Always a possibility. Most common leaks are rear main, turbo feed, turbo drain, and front seal.

With a turbocharged engine, any boost that leaks into the intake valley can start causing oil problems.

I was told by a company that has been working on these cars for 17 years that if you have a GN or T and it doesn't leak a little oil, then it doesn't have oil in it. These cars are gonna leak pretty much no matter what you do.

Hey Taurian, that sounds like an excuse, for a company thats not too terribly motivated. If one knows what theyre doin, they can do it right so that it doesnt leak. My old 231 never leaked. ya just gotta be patient, tenacious, and vigilant.
