Lowwww Oil Pressure
I just bought an '86 GN low 11 sec car, and I'm trying to figure it out. The car gets 10lbs of oil pressure at idle, 30lbs at cruise, and 40-45 under acceleration. My old TTA had twice most of these numbers. What could are typical reasons that beefed up cars run at low oil pressure? This car has some sort of turbo saver oil filter re-route going on. I'm sure many of you know what I'm talking about. The guy that sold me the car told me that these oil pressure levels are safe and typical of beefed up cars. Just wanted to check with you all on this. If I am in the danger zone, what do you suggest I do to raise the pressure, or what do you think might be causing the low pressure?

Re: Lowwww Oil Pressure
Sounds like it's on the low side of acceptable, but not that unusual. You can change the oil bypass spring in the pump and it might help, if the bypass is opening prematurely (maybe due to a weak spring?)
If the oil passages in the block were "worked" and a cam with the grooved front bearing was used, it can cause lower oil pressure as well, since the restrictions are lower. Not necessarily a cause for panic.

Re: Lowwww Oil Pressure
I also have a worked 87 we-4 that has a 10 second recipe. I am getting about the same numbers as you are. At an idle i am at about 10psi and under acceleration about 40-50. I thought it was bad until i read this thread. I might replace the bypass spring in the oil pump because i am running 25W 50 in it and dont think it should be so low. Thanks.
