New guy with a T Type Riv!
Hi everyone!
Not sure if you are able to help out a Turbo Riv guy or not. I bought a 85 T Type Riv and the engine needs some help. It has already been bored .040 over and the crank is .030 under. Does anyone know if the crank, rods or pistons are Turbo specific? I have an 85 carb short block under my work bench that just needs new cam bearings. Would this work in my application? How available are .060 over pistons? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks, Tim |

Re: New guy with a T Type Riv!
The good news is that most everything is the same as the 84-85 Regals, as far as mechanicals and electronics goes.
Biggest difference is the mounting of the turbo with that funky "J" tube.

Re: New guy with a T Type Riv!
Scott and Ken,
Thank you both for your replies! I did find .060 over pistons, but no .060 over rings! I may have a decent core motor located that is just a short block, but may be an unmolested one with original bores and an uncut crank. Another guy in Chicago said that he has 2 85 Turbo engines from Regals. If the only differencebetween the "A" body and Riv engine is the "J" tube and the return hole in the rear of the block, I could possibly convert one to my T Type Riviera application. I guess according to the Riviera Owners Association website, less than 2300 of these cars were built in 84-85, which is why I want to keep it on the road! Any other suggestions are really welcomed! Thanks, Tim McCluskey |
