Default Engine block interchangeability

Just a quick question. Is a FWD 3.8 block interchangeable with a RWD? I took my 84 block to the machine shop and found it to be junk. A buddy offered me a much later complete engine (free). I don't know if it will bolt up to my TH 350.

it is possible ... (get the FWD 86/87 3.8 heads if you can while your at it )

get a bellhousing from a '3800' Fbody (or what ever bellhousing they use on the V6 Fbodies the L67 swap is common in..if it's different that is..)

any bellhousing the 3800 bolts too the FWD 3.8 will ... I don't know what the block mounting differences are between the RWD and FWD 3.8 are unfortuneatly... but I just found out that inside wise they are the same (making turboing my delta88 soooooo much easier ) but the fwd 86/87 3.8 has better heads then the 86/87 RWD 3.8 ... they are pedestal mount 1.5 rockers(SBC aftermarket valvetrain parts ) and T T/A style exhaust ports ... so the heads are better.. mated with the T T/A manifolds and 86/87 GN intake

the FWD block also from what I hear has a really nice front cam shaft bearing ...but the oil pump is different ... so watch the little stuff

Thumbs down Re: Engine block interchangeability

I think the real answer to the original question is 'no'. The FWD trans pattern mounting is totally different, and the engine will not mount up RWD.

THe GM RWD transmissions the bellhosing isn't detachable, like a ford.
