Default Fake GN's on e-bay?

I always see Gn's listed on e-bay that have a "T" on the center of the steering wheel. Don't all "real" GN's have the Buick symbol in the center of the wheel?

Yes, they do. These may be rebadged T's trying to get more money, or just piles of parts, put together. Ot it may just be a T steering wheel hub put on a GN.

Look for all the other GN-specific characteristics: Nameplate over the glovebox, correct interior pieces, proper trunk codes indicating GN option (i.e. WE2 is the GN option), rear spoiler, etc.

Thanks for the info. I used to have an '87 GN and it got stolen. When the replaced the wheel there was a T in the center and I had to get it corrected. There sure are a lot of these "T-type" GN's on e-bay. I would think this constitutes fraud and is enough for anyone to get their money back.

The reason for the "T" horn cap is the replacement caps all come with the red T instead of the black/gray tri shield. The horn cap is probally the most frail part on our cars. One extra hard hit and the outer plastic ring will break. You were supposed to replace the emblem with your original one. I suspect a lot of people didn't know you could replace the emblem or it was lost with the other broken pieces.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but be careful removing the T-emblem if you do get a replacement for a broken horn ring. The newer horn caps are made of a harder plastic and therefore make the T-emblem harder to remove and replace the buick emblem. The older original horn caps are made of a softer plastic.

As far as fake GNs on ebay, ask for lots of pics, vin # and a pic of the vin decal under the trunk lid.

I don't have the vin# of the stolen GN. I got it back after a day or so. I've since sold the car. It's been about 7 years since I sold it. It's impossible to have a GN in Miami, Fla. without a garage. It will get stolen in a heartbeat. I'm going to wait a while before I get another one.
