I recently bought a 87 GN w/ 11,500 and the prior owner says that the rear main rope seal is leaking and that it is common with these cars.I get a little drop. I also noticed that it is wet on top of the oil filter pad, What would be causing this?

probly the oil getting slashed back from ur breather that runs from ur passenger side valve cover to the turbo inlet, its probly worn out, so when the turbo surges after boost it is throwing oil back threw ur intake, may wanna order a kit to block off the that breather.

Leaking rear main is VERY common. Rope seals leak. I wouldn't run to replace until it gets fairly bad. Then go with a synthetic, not 'rope' seal. Article with a few tricks for doing it right is on this site.
The newer 3800 motors went with a one-piece seal eventually.

May also be the turbo's oil supply line leaking at the fittings on top of the turbo, or the oil return line under the turbo.
