Jim has owned his 1987 Grand National since 1994. When he bought it the car had approximately 50,000 miles on it. The car was a basic high 12 second/ low 13 second recipe car. He drove it for several years on a daily basis until the car had about 104,000 miles on it.
With a TE-44 and blue tops Jim got the car into the low 12's. Well that was just not fast enough! (Have we all said/heard this before?) About 2 1/2 years ago, he decided to take it down and do a little tweaking! After countless hours of tuning and testing the car is responding nicely. The most recent time slips are a 10.54 at 126.12 mph. This was a 6.71@103 mph run in the 1/8th mile. Jim's fastest 1/8th mile run is a 6.66@104 mph. This run would have easily been a 10.4X run! Jim's Combination is as follows:
The car has proven to be very consistant in bracket racing and has allowed Jim to win the following races:
Jim is looking forward to the rest of the year and beyond to race this car and enjoy the comraderie of other Buick folks. Jim Cuba (Houston Buick Club) jcuba@brazosport.cc.tx.us |
