View Full Version : Mototron 60lb injector - tall/short question

I'm looking to buy some 60lb Mototron injectors and noticed they have a tall and a short injector. Does anyone know what the functional/performance differences are? Also, if I get the taller version, how does the fuel rail fit to it? Will I need longer studs and spacer to allow the rail to sit higher off the intake? Do either ones fit without mods?

Thanks!

Thanks Pacemaker. These look pretty tall too. Does the fuel rail tabs to intake/plenum housing fit right into place? Are these hi-z's disc type or pintle?

They are the same height. Just thin.

Thanks Keller.

Injectors are confusing to me... Full throttle (link Pacemaker provided) doesn't state the manufacturer of the hi-Zs. Racetronics has mototron 60lb. G-Body has the same pic as Racetronics with same part number on injectors but they call it (or typo'd) Montron injectors. The latter 2 seem to be Sieman/Deka? Who manufacturer the ones at Full Throttle? :screwy:

Pretty sure its these: http://www.appauto.com/tlink/details/catL107.html

vs. these, which seem mighty short: http://www.appauto.com/tlink/details/catS107.html

There are other 60 lb./hr injectors.

Siemens-VDO-Deka makes injectors as well. http://usa.siemensvdo.com/press/pictures/powertrain/sv-pp-iaa-deka-VII-injectors-20030909.htm

Looking at the Racetronix site, those are the same injectors. They must have bought the line from Brunswick/MotoTron. So they are Siemens-VDO-Deka-Mototron injectors. :screwy:

The Full Throttle ones should be MotoTron. Or whatever they're called.

Ken will straighten us all out...

Ken; please help! I also see these listed as motonics.. Also, if Full Throttle's is Seimens-VDO-Deka, they are the most expensive. Why can't we plug in a mfg part number in google and get the lowest supplier like for other commodities...

Motonics is an obvious mistake.

Looks like 2 different companies; Mototron, I blieve is the sales/marketing company, and siemans/deka is the manufacturer. Full Throttle says their injectors are "Mototron/Siemens". Oh well; go for the cheapest price.

Stop being concerned. They are the same injectors. Scour the Camaro/Mustang/brand X boards and they've been trying to figure the mess out, too.

Typo somewhere...

The injectors are manufactured to SPEC for MotoTron/MSD/Edge by Siemans. They use the DEKA body, but the flow/cal/coils are MotoTron spec (MOTOTRON, BTW ... a division of Brunswick and started by a bunch of gearheads from Mercury Racing).

The shorts are good for really tight manifolds (think supercharger crammed on a tight engine bay with an LSx (or an inboard boat motor)). They are functionally equivalent, but the LONGS are what fit the Buicks.

Sorry ... been totally swallowed up in the DashHawk project (really neat though! Got an intelligent sensor gateway up and talking to it ... official launch is 1st week of Jan, so trying to make sure all the details are in place!)

The injectors are kick butt and were developed with a lot of expensive/instrumented test cycles at Mercury/MotoTron. When my company (Accelerate) got acquired, we started using them in automotive stuff and found out they were FAR superior to most everything out there and they flow awesome. MotoTron's focus is OEM level industrial/marine/automotive controllers, so they decided that they really didn't want to deal with injector stuff. We worked out a deal with MSD/Edge and I transferred to MSD and brought the injector business with me.

All good!

Wow; Ken to the rescue! You know more about this than the people selling this stuff! One last question; is it worth it to spend $30 more to them the "matched flow" (some say within 1%) or are the general specs good enough? May not matter to most, but I just got a precision plenum and RJC plate to boot.

Good luck on Dashhawk and thanks.

Manufacturing tolerance is supposed to be 3% from the rated dynamic flow rate and 2% static flow rate ... that's a tested spec, BTW ... they flow all of them on a HUGE rig (about 10,000 at a time) thru a test cycle. From the manufacturing data I've seen, the VAST majority are right around 2% (1% high or low) of the spec.

That's good enough for most ... however, $30 is pretty cheap to have them matched even closer and guaranteed.

Every 10% savings helps when rebuilding a whole motor! Regardless, just ordered from Full Throttle - they have a nice sale going on till end of year. These were $300 plus shipping/tax. Thanks Ken.

Here are the injectors; on the left is the '86 stock (low mile) injector. In the middle is the Lucas 30lb (arguably 32lb), and on the right is the 60lb motoron injector from Full Throttle that I will be replacing the Lucas' with!
