running rich

hi my 87 gn is running rich ! and to start it i have to touch the gas pedal! what do i do to correct the problem? thank you

Wow, could be a ton of things! Any stumbling? Smoke(fuel)? Rich at startup/idle/wot, etc...?

Richness usually is caused by some sort of ign problem or the MAF taking a dump. If it is severely rich with a stock-style ECM and larger injectors, it could be in backup fuel mode. In this case, dont run the car, as an extreme amount of excess fuel will wash the cylinder walls clean and dillute/thin the oil.

Do you have a scan tool? Perhaps your TPS is set very low. Or your IAC is way out if adjustment.
